The Value of a Value

The company’s website had been hacked! If someone types in the company’s official url, they will be redirected to an Indonesian porn web! . Hopefully the Directors dodnt notice that the web was shut down was the last 2 days. The hosting guy refuses to say that they lack security and blame it on us. Fine! Maybe that’s true either but how can you let your server be infected with spyware? Anyway, it’s a blessing in disguise. as we wanted to put up the new website, so now, we dont have to clear the server before uploading cause we’re given a new ones :D yey!
While waiting for the files to be uploaded, we talked about things and somehow I started thinking about the actual value of money. I mean, how much does it cost to produce a 50 cent coin? Which makes me think, which is more costly? Producing a 50 cents coin or a note of RM 50? And I strongly believe that the cost to produce RM 1 is equal to the cost of producing a RM 50 note. Right?
So all in all, all notes are just papers with printed values on it (and the various sizes of course but that’s not too prominent). We value money as the value printed on the papers and not the actual value of the piece of paper that the money value is printed on (hope you guys understand what I am trying to say). It’s natural. It’s in today’s economic system. Back then, when the barter trade is used, we value things according to our need which reflects its true value to the owner.
So does all of us now, on human terms. We value people not through the value that he possesses but the value of today’s human is based on the printed numbers of his bank account / payslip. If he was high rank, highly paid, drive good car he will be highly respected regardless of how he achieved it; corruption, bribery, kronism, cheating, backstabbing and the list goes on. Attributes like good hearted, sincere, hard-working, pious, etc etc had lost its place in defining value for an individual. That’s why people seek money and power regardless of methods used. That’s why people that has no opportunity, succumb to desperate measures to add their value to the society through corruption, bribery etc. a fast way to get cash and power! And knowing that good-will and virtues will bring them nowhere, especially in today’s world.
Back then, when a father is looking for a prospect husband for his daughter, he’d go like “ Rajin si Ahmad tuh, surau tak pernah tinggal, suka menolong, muka pun hensem jugak. Bertuah ko Milah kalo ko kawin ngan si Amad”. Now, father would go: “ Kerja apa si Ahmad tuh? Kete apa dia pakai? Boleh ke dia bayar kalau bapak mintak hantaran RM 15,000? Anak datuk ke dia?”…whether he is religious, a good person, physically good is not to say not a factor, but a less important factor in deciding the guy, as being worthy to the daughter…
